DANCING WITH MYSELF

These pictures didn't make it into the book but I love them. The ankle socks are for the sportier guy, who, like me isn't afraid to dance with themselves. ---> Dancing With Myself

Slip stitch (UK, US) / Smygmaska

Is used most often to fasten/cast off, but can also be used as a stitch by itself.

Insert hook from the front under the 2 top threads of stitch to left of the hook.

Catch thread with hook and draw through stitch and the loop on hook.

 Continue to the end of the row.

Crocheting in the round - Adapted version

Instead of crocheting 6 ch you start off the same as you would when doing a loop. Thread the thread twice around your index and middle finger. Take your crochet needle and insert it in the loop between your index and middle finger. Catch the long end of the thread and draw loop through.

Twist the hook up till the loop rests on your hook. Thread over and pull through loop. 

 You will now have a ring with a dc / sc at the top.

 Start crocheting dc / sc into the ring.

 

 

Crochet 8 dc / sc into the ring 

At the end you pull the shorter thread which will close the 8 dc / sc into a tight ring. 

Do a slip stitch in the first dc / sc to close the ring.

Crocheting in the round - Classic

There are two ways of starting to crochet in the rounds. I have adapted it as I found that every time I did the classic version I ended up with a big hole in the middle.

Crochet 6 chains. 

Join together with a slip stitch (ss) into the first chain to form a ring.

Make 8 dc (UK) / 8 sc (US) into the ring.

Close the ring with a ss into the first dc / sc.

Treble (UK) / Double Crochet (US) / Stolpe (SWE)

You will start off the same as with the half treble. Thread over, insert hook into fourth chain from the hook, thread over and draw through the loops, you will now have 3 loops on your hook.

But instead of taking thread over and drawing through all 3 loops as with half treble, you will just draw through the first 2 loops.

When you have done that there will still be 2 loops on the hook.

Finnish of the treble with thread over and through. 

Repeat until end of the row.






 

At the end of the row 3 chain and turn.

This time the 3 chains counts as a stitch of the next row. Continue to the end.

Half Treble (UK) / Half Double Crochet (US) / Halv Stolpe (SWE)

Thread over, insert hook into third chain from the hook, thread over and draw through the loops, you will now have 3 loops on your hook.

Thread over and draw through all 3 loops.

 Repeat till end of row. At the end of row 2 chains and turn.

Do as many rows as you need until you feel familiar with the stitch.

Double Crochet (UK) / Single Crochet (US) / Fast Maska (SWE)

Make ten chains, turn and insert the hook from the front under the the 2 top threads - it is customary to pick up the 2 top threads of each stitch unless otherwise specified.

Thread over and draw thread through.

There should be 2 loops on the hook.

Thread over again and draw through the 2 loops which will give you 1 loop left on the hook.

Continue the last two steps until end of the row.

Chain 1 and turn the work so that the reverse side is facing you. The extra 1 chain is there to make it easier to turn but it does not count as a stitch.

Insert hook under the 2 top loops of the first stitch (st), thread over and draw through st, thread over again and draw through the 2 loops on hook which will leave you with 1 loop on hook.

Repeat the last 2 steps until end of the row.
